Lesson 1: The Basic Sentence

This lesson introduces a three-part sentence pattern (tense marker, pronoun, verb) and shows you how to use it to make statements and ask questions about past actions. The sentence Naʻá ke kai? ("Did you eat?") is your first example of this pattern in action.

These two sentences show the basic pattern for this lesson: a tense marker, a pronoun, and a verb, always in that order. You will build on this pattern and learn others as the book progresses.
