Lesson 18: Definiteness and the Definitive Accent

This lesson returns to articles and introduces a feature of Tongan that has no equivalent in English: the definitive accent.

Lesson 8: Articles introduced the articles ha, e, and he. English has two levels of specificity: "a" (indefinite) and "the" (definite). Tongan has three. "Definite" means specific in the speaker's mind. "Indefinite" means not specific.
