Lesson 49: Prefixes

This lesson covers four prefixes that attach to the front of a word. Each one changes the meaning of the verb or noun it modifies in a specific, predictable way.

A prefix is a short element added before a word to change its meaning. English does this with un- (undo), re- (redo), and co- (coworker). Tongan prefixes work the same way, and you already know one: faka-. The four prefixes here are fe-, ma- (with its variants mo- and mā-), moʻu-, and kaungā-.
